No Going Back Nov 20 2008

"For I do not want you to be unaware brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea." - 1 Corinthians 10:1-2

There is an interesting passage in the book of Exodus commenting on the actions of the Israelis after Passover. It says, "After the Passover Lamb...saved their life, they were led to freedom. Then they demonstrated their faith by walking through the sea." In a way, their obedience was like their baptism, just like the baptism of a new believer in Jesus Christ. God was saying to Israel - as He was saying to the early Christian church - "Look, once you take that first step, there's no going back!" Once God brought the waters of the sea together again, there was no going back to slavery in Egypt. They had to walk forward on their journey of faith.

The same is true when we accept Christ. We are then to be baptized as a testimony of our faith in Christ. When we enter those waters, there's no going back! There's no going back to the days before we knew Christ; we're now on an irreversible journey that follows Jesus to the ultimate Promised Land!

Yes, report it Nevermind

And, Moses was an Old Testament "type" of Christ. Just as we are babtized into Christ, so were they to Moses. And, the cloud was God's Holy Spirit that was sent to guide them and to comfort them. I love the "foreshadowing" of the stories in the OT. Have a blessed day all.

I am so happy that I was baptised by immersion this past year. I came from a background of churches that sprinkled for baptism. Somehow it did not seem sufficient when I considered how Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River where he would have been immersed. Being immersed was one more way I could show that I am a follower of Jesus. At age 54, like me, or at any age it is the right age if you are a believer to step into the baptismal pool. You will feel joyful and know that you are following the best example in all history.

Janice, I am so glad you are satisfied with your baptism, it is a blessing when this happens. I know some church's sprinkle and I don't know where this started or why, but baptism come from the greek word "baptizo" which does mean to immerse or to dip. God bless you and I pray you will allways have the zeal to serve the Lord that you have now.
