The Supernatural Power of God Nov 19 2008

"And he (Peter) went out and continued to follow, and he did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision." - Acts 12:9

Dana Curry and Heather Mercer, missionaries to Afghanistan, tell of Qalzai, a man that their ministry brought to Christ. As with many Muslims who convert, he was arrested, tossed into a prison cell, beaten daily, and left to await his almost-certain execution.

One night, our new brother dreamed that a large strong-looking man surrounded by a glowing light suddenly appeared in his cell. The man led him out of the cell, into the prison courtyard, and out the front gates. When Qalzai awoke, he immediately realized that it had all been just a dream and was understandably depressed. But then, as he sat up, he noticed that his cell door was open. He didn't see a guard anywhere, so he began to think, "Hey, maybe God is up to something here!" He walked out of his cell, into the courtyard, and right through the unlocked front gate of the prison. Qalzai had experienced a miracle exactly like the one that Peter did two thousand years earlier. They had both witnessed the supernatural power of God.

God's supernatural power is still right here, right now.

This isn't the first time that I have heard of miracles happening in other countries. Maybe they happen there because the people there are not as cynical as we are. It could be that we have a lesson to learn here, the lesson being that if you are cynical you may be blocking God.

I'm saddened to think that you don't believe miracles happen here in the States. My father's last few years witnessed to miracles in our everyday life. Medical miracles are around us every day. There are financial windfalls that saved people's lives, houses burning down and only their Bible and family photos surviving, and friends whose souls were saved because of dreams sent from God. I'll agree that there is a significant amount of cynicism around us. We must pray to allow our hearts to rise above that cynicism to see the beauty of God's work and His miracles each and every day. I pray that you'll be touched by His super natural pawers.

What a wonderful story. I've heard from missionaries in Muslim countries that Jesus is appearing to people in dreams. There is a much stronger significance given to the meaning of dreams in Muslim societies, and some of the new converts report that their acceptance of Christ was motivated by his appearance in a dream.

What can you say about a Heavenly Father who loves us enough to do all the things He does for us? It's amazing.

Miricles do happen here in the states, and yes there are alot of cynicism around us today but we serve a God who is able to get above all of our doubt and do what he wants to do in our lives. I have wittnessed many miricles and have stood in awe at the power of God. In the Baptist doctrine we have been taught that God doesn't do this anymore but that ties his hands and keeps him from showing his power.I don't hold to all the hollywood acts that are in alot of the television ministries but I do believe in Divine healing. I know this may sound confusing but I believe he has all the power in the world to do anything he wants to do. i believe this could have happened to this new brother, after all God is no respect of person, what he did for Peter he can do for this brother, if he chooses. Have a blessed day.

The Bible ref :Acts 1:9 refers to a different text than what is stated here. Acts 1:9 reads:
And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
The correct quote is Acts 12:9

THE VERSE AND THE REFERENCE WERE OBVIOUSLY A MISPRINT. I DON'T THINK BRYANT DID IT ON PURPOSE. WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES

Osy Thanks for noticing this for us. We've changed the verse reference to Acts 12:9 instead of Acts 1:9.
