A Remarkable Day Jan 20 2009
"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." - Romans 13:11
This is a remarkable day in America - the swearing in of a new President. After two years of heated debates and hard campaigning, non-stop television commercials and quarrels around the office coffeepot, America inaugurates its forty-fourth president. At noon today, George W. Bush will quietly and peacefully hand over the presidency.
The key word here is "peacefully." For over 225 years, Americans have witnessed this peaceful transfer of power. And what makes this day so remarkable is that we have never had to even think about it being otherwise. We have never worried that the incumbent would surround the capital with tanks in an attempt to hold on to power. Never has a President even considered having the opposition candidate arrested or assassinated. Such acts are so far removed from possibility that truly are too preposterous to believe. The rest of the world marvels our peaceful transfer of power and the fact that we can take this process for granted.
So instead of having to pray that such a diabolical plot not occur, today we can simply offer a prayer of thanksgiving for our nation and wisdom and strength and blessing for our new President. May God bless the United States and all who lead our nation.

Yes, report it NevermindI don't want to "rain on anybody's parade", but I don't feel HOPE for our country today; I feel a deep sense of apprehension. I "hope" that I am wrong and I will continue to pray for our country and its leadership. We have been so blessed by God and yet we continue to mock Him and rebuff Him.
I pray that He will continue to bless us, be patient with us and have mercy on us.

Yes, report it NevermindI am a conservative and was defiant at first on Obama as our President but I am going to stand behind him 100%. Now when I look at things, I feel like this could be a great change for this country. We can't have another 4-8 years of bullying other countries. I also stand by my belief that George Bush is a good man. He was faced with some extremely trying times and I feel he did what he felt needed to be done. However, it is time for a change and may god bless Barack Obama and this wonderful country we live in.

Yes, report it NevermindUNITED WE STAND!DIVIDED WE FALL!
As this country became more and more divided, we became more and more overwhelmed by problems. It's time to stop this. We have no control over the end time, only our time and our actions.
For God's sake, let us now become One Country under GOD!

Yes, report it NevermindIf you don't feel hope, where is your faith??? I don't understand people when they make comments like this not realizing who is in control. They say there are what they are but are they really? Makes you wonder!

Yes, report it NevermindA big difference exists between hope in heaven along with hope in God's goodness to those who honor, respect and try to live in His prescribed ways as opposed to hope for our nation that seems to have more people who live in total neglect of God and His word and ways. How can we hope to be blessed considering all the abortions that have taken place? Think of all those lives that have been lost that could have been instruments of God's blessing. I do agree with the devotion that this is a remarkable day and it has in itself been certainly blessed and I thank and praise God for that. But I agree with Grant that it is hard to feel much hope unless we have a major spiritual revival and renewal in our nation.

Yes, report it NevermindJust to be clear: My hope is in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. This is the only hope that has a guaranteed result for those who put their faith in it.
I too lament the division that grips our country. However, I do not think that the answer is for the 50% who hold one set of values, to give up their principles to the 50% that hold opposite views. As Janice says, there are some moral issues that simply cannot be compromised. Whether the average voter realizes it, the very foundational principles that have made our country great are subject to being changed drastically. Some people are fighting very hard to make that happen. I intend to stand against it. Christianity itself is also under attack by the secular humanists among us. We are "aliens in enemy territory".
God has raised leaders up, and He has brought them down. All things will be done according to His divine will on earth and in heaven.

Yes, report it NevermindRegardless of how any of us voted, we need to support our president. This doesn't mean we have to support his decisions 100%, especially if they go against our beliefs. This is a time for us to remain vigilant and make sure our country stays on course. How do you do this? By knowing what decisions are being made by congress, by staying as involved politically now as we all were during the campaign process, and contacting our congressmen when decisions go against our Christian beliefs. Also, more than anything, we need to continually pray for our President. May he seek God's counsel in all of his decisions.

Yes, report it NevermindYou are so right, FCE. I agree with you 100%. The election is over, we, as citizens, should continue to pray for him and hold his feet to the fire.

Yes, report it NevermindWhen you study Revelation You feel a certain peace about the turmoil in the world particularly the middle east. Yes, God is in control, but that does not mean that we should look through rose colored glasses. Revelation clearly predicts all that is going on now & that things will get much worse before Christ comes back. We as Christians, true Christians, will continue to look to God no matter what our circumstances. Those that are lukewarm will fall by the wayside as they are ridiculed & persecuted as is beginning to happen. In the end Christ will triumph, but that does not mean unfortunately that our country will survive. I certainly of course hope it does & will pray so, but the truth of the matter is I don't and most biblical scholars don't see where our country is mentioned in the end times. It is hard to say because of the way it is written, but seeing the US in it is kind of a stretch. So all that said, I am trying to say that I see where Grant is coming from. We should always look toward Christ and not our fellow man for our example on how to live or our salvation.

Yes, report it NevermindAs I watched today's events unfold I was surprisingly filled with joy and gratitude, blessed. Our Country is indeed the most wonderful place to live on the earth. No, I did not vote for President Obama. However, I will support my Country and do my duty as a citizen to uphold the laws and follow the people put in place to govern. It was sad to see such a principal, God loving President leave office. He too, like any man had faults but I admired the way he stood by his ideals and had a strong love for the Lord. That endeared me to him. I do know how hard I prayed and petitioned God for the leader of His choice and for His will to be done. The outcome is this and so with peace in my heart I believe my God is and always will be active and involved with His own. Today, was a wonderful day to celebrate our nations historical "passing of the torch". With every prayer given and every head bowed I praised God for His leadership and His will. Today is the day the Lord has made..I rejoiced and was glad in it.

Yes, report it NevermindI didn't vote for our new President, and I did not believe he was the best choice. Now that he is the President he will get my prayers and support. This is Biblical, while I may not aggree with him he has the position so he will get it. I never understood this view until I began Pastoring and now I understand not everyone aggrees with decisions I make all the time either. We as Americans need to start pulling together if we ever want to see this Nation climb up out of the hole we have dug for ourselves for the past 30 years. God bless everyone and may God bless and guide our new President.

Yes, report it NevermindUnfortunately, I have felt myself sliding down the path of being a racist and I do not want to become like that. I think racism is almost a natural instinct that we have to overcome as people through understanding and education. Don't take me wrong, I do not take actions, use slang words and stuff like that. Yesterday, I felt ashamed for my feelings of racism. Barack Obama is a worthy leader. He's smart, loves his beautiful family, is a Christian and just deserves the opportunity. As Jerry said,we are in a hole in this country and we need to climb out. I think Barack is going to lead us down the right path.
