The Cure for Worry Sep 11 2008

"Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. " - Matthew 6:26

One morning I walked outside of our house as the light was just beginning to show on the horizon. The birds around our yard were chirping and singing. They were pumped about another day, getting ready to go to work, finding twigs for their nest and worms to chew on. Those birds didn't have a worry in the world! They lived a lifestyle that shows a trust for their Creator, while they go about gathering the resources that He makes available to them.

But while the birds trust God day by day, they also work hard from dawn to dusk. As that famous philosopher, Anonymous, once said, "Pray as if everything depends on God, and then work as if everything depends on you."

Pray to the Lord, share your worries and concerns. And then work hard like the birds. They just don't have time to worry. Neither do we, when we trust God and work hard.

It is not just the birds that don't worry about what they need, it's all the animals. They work hard but trust in God to provide for them.

There is something else that we need to remember, we are God's children and He loves us. In fact, God even knows the number of hairs on our head. It jsut shows you that He knows our needs and our wants. However, He also knows what is best for us. All need to do is trust Him just like the animals and plants do.

Today, seven years ago 3000 people went to work thinking it was just another day. Millions more of us had our "plans for the day". For some reason, today's passage has never given me the comfort that it does to many. I relate more to Jesus saying not to dwell on worry about tomorrow because each day will have worry enough of its own. Today, especially, I am reminded how quickly each of our earthly lives can be turned upsided down, and I will remember to be thankful for whatever blessings the day brings. Pray for those who still live with the nightmare of this day in history.

Watch the birds. They don't worry. But that doesn't mean they are not vigilant. When they eat or drink they take a quick snip at food or water and then look around right away for predators. Watch them as they drink. Sip, look, sip, look.
Don't worry, but stay vigilant.

Worry...Best done when passed genetically from generation to generation, and at 2:00 or 3:00AM, when all concerns are worse than they are in the light of day !! If this is not for you, I have hit on a sure cure.GIVE IT TO GOD !!! (not just for the moment).Don't give it to God for a few hours while you sleep and then take it back in the morning when you are rested!! I have learned a few things in my 62 years. Most folks my age wake in the night for one reason or another...most of my female friends find that this is a great time to really gear up for a good "worry" session...some read, some watch TV,some even get up and clean house!Virtually all are then unable to go back to sleep! I on the other hand say a very short prayer...Dear God...the thing I need most right now is SLEEP...if it is your will, please clear my mind of needless thoughts, bless me with rest, and give me a solution in the morning!!For me, this works every time.I barely have a memory of finishing my prayer.Laugh if you will..I know it works.I also have come to realize that worry is a total waste of time.It accomplishes absolutely NOTHING.It won't pay the bills,it won't keep your kids safe on the road,it won't stop a tornado from hitting you home...on and on and on !!! PRAYER on the other hand will bring you peace when you need it most! (when the bad stuff happens and there isn't a thing you can do about it!!!)

Today's Bible verse is one which I consider to be faith testing. On the one hand it brings to mind all the people in the world who do not have enough food and I try to understand how this verse relates to them. But on the other hand, I look at my life which has had its moments of scarcity and I know God has always provided. Especially, I always think of my "egg moment". That occurred when I had a recipe in mind that I wanted to cook but it called for an egg or two and I did not have any eggs. Also, I did not have any money with which to buy eggs. Soon after I had decided to forget making the recipe I received a call from a neighbor who asked if I could use a dozen eggs because they had been on sale, buy a dozen/get a dozen free, at the grocery. All I could say about it was, "God provides". I had not even prayed about it and He still provided just what I needed which has continued to be one of my favorite among the many blessings.

this is one of the most often quoted scriptues, and one of the least heeded. It isn't put into practice because we lack the faith needed to accept it.Praise God and trust Him to do the worry. Leila

Grant, everytime someone says anythint about Septmeber 11th (today), I always remember where I was on that morning, setting in my 6th grade language arts class (getting ready for a break). It was my sub. for math/science that told me what happened and at what time. It is a nightmare, if you are old enought to remember, no matter where you were at on that day.

Today being what it is also helps point out that we have to trust in God. We aren't promised tomorrow, so why worry.

That quote from anonymous bothers me... I think it is not consistent with scripture. The first part of the saying should not say "as if"... it should say, "Pray because everything depends on God...." Eh?
