Garth And Unanswered Prayer

"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know." - Jeremiah 33:3

In Garth Brooks' hit "Unanswered Prayer," he sings of how thankful he is that God didn't answer his prayer to marry his high school honey. Instead, God led him to meet and marry the right woman for him. The song has good insight about God. He only wants what is best for us.

God answers prayer...every single time. He does it in three main ways: yes, no, and wait awhile.

If it's yes, do we have the courage to move ahead in faith?

If no, are we willing to trust that God knows best, and accept it?

It may not be what we want, but it will always be for our best. This is what Garth calls "unanswered prayer." And if the answer is wait awhile, are we willing to do that?

Another great devotion.
Janice, I just saw your comment from May 30th. I'm so glad you are enjoying it. Music really speaks to me, also.
Another off subject comment...I've been reading "A Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. I've had it sitting on my shelf for years. I'm loving it. I'm not even half way through it but I've gotten so much out of it already. It's strengthening my faith even more and I believe it will help me reach out to others. It answers so many questions haning out there about Jesus and the Bible. - Melanie

There was a time when I thought God would answer prayer just like I thought He should. I misunderstood Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." I thought if I worshipped and praised Him and found joy in those occasions that He would give me whatever my selfish heart desired. Now after some years of more in depth Bible study I get it! It means He will align the desires of my heart to His. I am so thankful God has been patient with me as I seek to understand Him and how He loves and cares for me. Just as we like to feel people are in agreement with us, I think God is the same and that He seems to answer prayer favorably when our desires line up with His desires. Studying Scripture makes us aware of what He desires. I am so thankful for the privilege of knowing more about Him daily. - Janice

I'm confused. isn't Garth Brooks married to Trisha Yearwood and wasn't he married before and had 2 or 3 children? So which wife is or was the right one? I know this isn't the point of the message but as a divorced woman seeking the right man I wonder about this. - chris

In response to Chris: Unfortunately, I believe that the "right one" for Garth Brooks was the first one - unless he or she committed adultery or was physically abusive. - Gracie Benz
