God Knows Your Name
"...the Lord knows those who are His..." - 2 Timothy 2:19
Years ago the great Methodist preacher, Charles Allen, was asked by a wealthy Texas oilman who he believed was our greatest president. Dr. Allen said, "That's easy. LBJ."
The man's face turned red with anger. He said, "Dr. Allen, how in the world can you say that lying, scheming scoundrel was our greatest president?"
He replied, "Well, one day I was standing in the lobby of a hotel and LBJ came through. He shouted to me, 'Dr. Allen, you keeping those Methodists straight?' The reason I feel he was the greatest president is because he is the only one who knew my name."
When important people know our name it makes us feel good. But when they call us by name in front of a crowd, we really feel special.
Good news. The most important person who ever lived knows your name. His name is Jesus. He knows everything about you and He loves you anyway. When you get to know him as Savior and Lord, He'll make you feel important and significant--even more than the president calling you by name.

I still live around the same area that I did when I grew up, and other than the people who have moved into this area, alot of people knows me. Of course pastoring a small church in the area helps for people to recognize me. I some times wonder do they see me coming and say "Oh no here Jerry comes again". Some probably do and some don't, but I sure don't want the Lord to do that when he looks upon me. I would hope He would say "Well here is my child coming, Lets see how he will please me this time".(Hey its my post so I can imagine it my way) The truth, He probably says "Well let me get started fixing what he is going to mess up today". I know we are human but He still loves us and yes He does know us, so let strive to do our best so he wont be ashamed of us today. God Bless all of you today. - Jerry
"He knows everything about me and He loves me anyway."
How the world would change if we could do that!!! I am a long way off, but I keep pressing toward the goal. Besides, it is a commandment.
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another."
John 13:34
I am about to head home in some traffic so I am going to go practice loving folks.
You guys have a great weekend and God bless you all!!!

This devotion made me think about that my name is in the Book of Life and that thought made me wonder just when does one's name get written in the Book of Life. I wondered if it would be at the point of salvation? So I went into Bible Gateway through the RFTH devotion's Bible verse reference and looked up Book of Life. There I found in Revelation 17:8 "...written in the book of life from the creation of the world." So God has known of me much longer than I have known myself. And He still loves me! Awesome. Thanks Jerry and Keith R. for your valuable comments which both made me smile. - Janice
