The Meaning Of Man, Part 1 Feb 23 2008

"Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness..." - Genesis 1:26

What is the meaning of man?

The answer is on page one of the Bible. It says "and God created man in His own image." What does it mean to be in the image of God? It doesn't mean physical appearance, but it does mean in God's likeness.

We can think like God. We can reason. We are creative.

We are to rule over creation. We need to care for it, protect it, and use it in a way that is pleasing to God.

We are spiritual beings. Unlike the animals, we can worship God. God desires a personal relationship with us.

We are moral beings. Man deals with right and wrong. The best way for us to do this is to obey God's Word in faith.

If we submit to God, we reflect His nature. But when we don't, we look more like beasts. Understanding this, does your life reflect the image of God or are you more like an animal?

Being that we are created in God's (spiritual) image, should we not look to him as an example for how to live our lives.
One GREAT example he gave (to fathers) was Jesus' baptism. Matthew 3:17 says; And there came a voice from heaven: This is my beloved son. I take delight in him.
To all fathers; "Tell your son, I Love You! I am proud of you! You are good!" They NEED and LONG to hear that. Did you get it it from your father? If so, pass it on. If not, ask for it AND pass it on.
If you don't have a son, be a mentor. 40% of children in America live in a fatherless home. They need mentor who can lead them and care for them.

Men, the last book of the old testament say, And he will turn the hearts of fathers to [their] children and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise, I will come and strike the land with a curse." 40% is a curse. It is time to remove this curse from our land. We can only do so by first turning our hearts to the father.
Let's start a revival.

Good one Eric...but the curse should really be upon those dead beat fathers and mothers who could really care a less for their own children--their own flesh and blood. Why should I bare a curse just because they sin?

Kevin, Perhaps we all should bear the curse because we have not done more to show them the better way that God prescribes in the Bible. When I was a young(er) mom I went to a church after I heard there would be a program on parenting. I knew I could do better although I surely recognized I was far from the worst. Anyway, the program never materialized and I continued to muddle along seeking help through books, reading the Bible, etc. How much better would I have done if the parenting program could have been presented? Only God knows. Young parents need all the help they can get because they have not been there done that before. May God bless all those who are willing to take the time and provide the resources to show them the better way.

We are all God's children. That makes us all brothers and sisters . . . regardless.
If my brother is a dead-beat dad and I do nothing, am I blameless? No.
It takes a community to rasie a child.

My prayer is that my life does reflect God but I know it depends on my choices so much. Will I choose to reflect His character or will I choose to return to the old ways? Today I chose to reflect Him but I realize it is a moment by moment choice.

We were not created just in God's spiritual image, but His actual physical LIKENESS. We have a body, just like He does. We're just following His footsteps in the eternal nature of things. But unfortunately, having been duped by the "Great Whore of the World," we're not doing a very good job at it.

We are created in Gods image but sometimes we act like we don't want to be associated with him. I'm not talking about unbelievers, Im speaking of the ones who claim to know him. We act like and speak like the world when we were told to come out from the world. God help us to get close to him.

LOL!! Erik! Gotta love you! No...the "Whore of the Earth" is what the Catholic Church is called in Revelations. Paris may act like one from time to time...but I want to believe she is worthy of repentance and salvation.
