Turning Evil Into Good Feb 16 2008

"As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result..." - Genesis 50:20

One of the great stories of the Bible deals with the life of Joseph, the son of Jacob. He was loved by his father and resented by his ten older brothers. They sold him into slavery and told their father he had been killed and devoured by a wild animal.

What is so amazing about Joseph is that he never gave up and never quit trusting in God, even though he faced setback after setback. He was falsely accused and unjustly thrown into prison. Miraculously, one day Joseph was called to interpret the Pharaoh's dreams. In so doing, he was appointed prime minister of Egypt to save the people from famine.

Amazingly, because he saved the people from famine, the brothers who betrayed him were saved as well. When they realized the prime minister of Egypt was the brother they had betrayed years earlier, they were afraid. Yet Joseph forgave them and said, "What you meant for evil, God meant for good."

What faith--what forgiveness--what an example for all of us.

Yes, report it Nevermind

When I worked in the mental health services industry, I often came across counsellors and workers who had succumbed to the evils of drugs, alcohol, committing robberies etc. Yet, they were often more effective in helping addicts than others who simply had qualifications in this field. They did know what drug abuse can do to individuals having experienced it themselves and therefore developed better approaches to combat this evil. Maybe, God uses these people to help others. Likewise, people who are victims of crime often get very inspired to get involved in fields of endeavour (English spelling:-))which they never would have considered before, often in helping professions. Often, many things work out for the good.

Frits, Your comment brought to mind a Bible verse, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."
(2 Corinthians 1:3-4) You are right, Frits, this is one way in which God can turn evil into good. One evil happening to one person can be turned to numerous good outcomes for other of God's precious children (old and young).

I DEFINITELY agree with this. The past year of my life was horrible. I honestly didn't think I'd survive it, and quite frankly, I wasn't sure I wanted to. But God took the broken, empty state I was in and turned it into an experience that has given me insight and an opening to talk to others about Christ.

We serve an AMAZING God.

I definately agree with this verse, I have been going through a tough time, with someone who I though was ordained for me, but this person has been working against me, he decived me from the start of the relationship up and till now. I am leaving it in gods hands. The lord laid this verse in my heart today so I will leave all things up to him. In jesus name.

I am going through a situation were I am being falsely accused by my father for something another family member did and it is so hard to not lash out. Reading this verse makes me realized that ALL is in God's hands and He alone dispenses justice, forgiveness and provides vindication to the righteous.

Indeed we server an AMAZING God!!
