How Do We Find Contentment? Sep 28 2012

"Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am." - Philippians 4:11

One of the most rare commodities in society is contentment. Advertisers would have us believe that their product is the key to finding fulfillment and happiness. Television programming reinforces this message and fills our homes with images of things. It's like this "stuff" is essential to our happiness.

Seeking satisfaction in things will never bring contentment; it just leads to further dissatisfaction. How do we find contentment? Like so many other things, contentment is a choice - a by-product.

A man who had more than his share of difficulty in life said, "I have learned to be content regardless of my circumstances." It was the apostle Paul who said that. How did he do it? The key was found in his relationship with Jesus Christ. That's the key for anyone. We all have the same opportunity to find contentment. It's a by-product of our relationship with Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. That is the key to being content.

Lydia was an unbelievable Woman and it is kind of hard to Believe Paul had to actually tell two other Gals in that Assembly to stop Fighting...Euodia and Syntyche.

They were not Content at that Moment were they? Paul was in Prison.

But the Gals in that Church were remarkable--Squabbles or Not.

Contentment is also a Result of making Peace with each other.

Phroneo...

Too many folks have the "When,.....then...." attitude about happiness.

When I get married, I'll be happy......
When I get a raise, I'll be happy....
When I get that car, I'll be happy....
etc....

Problem is that Jesus says that if your happiness is in this world, then here also will be your reward.

Our joy is in Him, and will be complete in the next life. As Paul said, we must learn to be content in good times and bad in this life, because we will experience both.

You are Right Grant:

I got Married Twice--Never more miserable in My Life--They always wanted more...I was Happy! Really Happy! They were Miserable...One told me I was a Great Father and Provider and a Lousy Husband and I went to visit with the second Yesterday?

She said I was a Great Dad and Son and then accused me of wanting to Remarry Her! For God's sake all I was doing was visiting a Sick Sister to try to comfort her!

Had a Kid Twice--If you could see them now Grant they are so Gorgeous. If my Son had Brown hair and Eyes he would look a lot like Bryant. They are just absolutely Gorgeous.

Cars? Nothing but Headaches but you have to have them to Carpool the Kids and Clients.

Love not the World neither the Things that are in the World...For all that which is of this World...the Lust of the Flesh and the Lust of the Eyes and the Pride of Life?

These are not from the Father--They are of this World--and the World Passes away the Lusts thereof--But he who does the Will of God? Remains forever...

Give that Little Daughter and Grandson and Grandmom a Hug for Me...

I am astounded by the Hatefulness of People...The last time my Son and I had Dinner together? He grabbed my hand and said the Blessing!

Grant sometimes the Lord doesn't reveal in The Dark what we Saw in the Light...

I feel like such a Fool/G

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

Gunk,

Don't feel like a fool. Yours is the inheritance something more fabulous than anything in this life.

As a man thinketh in his heart so is he!!! What a mess we find ourselves in when we think that something in this world (ouside ourselves) will MAKE us happy. Remember Eve thought eating from the forbidden tree would do something for her. This has been one of the devils greatest tricks since it worked on Eve. Solomon couldn't have said it better in Ecclesiastes 1:14 "I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind". Wow!! Just imagine trying to chase the wind!!
