You Do The Deed - You Get The Consequences Jun 13 2012

"For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done." - Colossians 3:25

I'm haunted by the biblical story of Sarah and Abraham. God promised them a child to build a great nation. They were past the normal childbearing years, so Sarah had an idea. It was custom in those days that if the husband had a child by his wife's maid, the child could legally be his wife's child. So, Sarah said to Abraham, "Sleep with my maid." He was glad to oblige.

The Egyptian maid had a child. Sarah became insanely jealous and eventually ran the maid and her son off. His name was Ishmael, from which many Arabic people are descendants. Later, God gave Sarah and Abraham a child. He was named Isaac, and from him would come Israel and the Jewish people.

Because Sarah did not trust God's promise, it led to a sibling rivalry between Ishmael and Isaac - rivalry and animosity that exist to this day in the Middle East between Arabs and Jews.

Sin brings long-term consequences. Let's make it easier on ourselves and others. Let's do things God's way the first time, through faith.

"from which many Arabic people are descendants".
You have a reference for this? It's considered 'folk history.'

Genesis 25:12-16 is the "toledoth" (record) which was kept by Ishmael, which he gave to Isaac at the funeral or burial of Abraham (25:9). At that time Ishmael would have been around 90 years old, he had with him, his 12 sons, which each had established their own nations. Verse 18 explains where they lived, and this gives us a general idea of the reason we believe the Arab's (people of Arabia) are descendants of Ishmael. I believe the promise God made to Abraham concerning Isaac, and the land given to him and his descendants, caused the Arabians to be jealous and thus the many wars down through the years. "Folk history?" No Hebrew history, you may concider it untrue, but to a whole Nation of people, they believe it to be true.

yes, jerry. and the Aztecs kept a record of how they were visited by Quetzocoatl, the feathered serpent god, and many others. you may not believe but a whole nation of people did, and many still do, so i guess it must be true.

Nothing in this story is true. 10-15 minutes of reading outside of the Bible is all it takes to see that. Agree with Erik - ancient folk history.

Erik,
America, believes that a man named Colombus sailed across the ocean and landed on a shore of a land strange to him and helped to settle this country. Sounds logical doesn't it? Your story doesn't even have a bit of logic. The story of Abraham has logic, and even historical proof through archaeological digs, a source of science. Where is any proof of what you said? Those people may believe that story, yet it has no bearing on this devotion. The problem we have on this site is we have over and over proven our belief with history and science and still you want to jerk people around. I do feel remorse somtimes for sounding like I am upset, and sometimes I have been, but still, there have been plenty of proof from the side of the believers of Christ, you need to decide, will you ever believe in Christ or not? It is not our job to prove His existence, I believe He has done that himself, it is in your hands now, I just hope and pray that you make a wise decision. Remember, Jesus loves you, whatever "your" choice is.

"It is not our job to prove His existence"

Actually, it is. The burden of proof is always on the believer of irrationality without evidence. The people with reason and logic on their side don't have to prove anything. The evidence speaks for itself.

The very fact that we are here debating this proves that you have none.

I'm not well versed in the scriptures but I believe there is a passage somewhere where it states, " ... God chose the base things of this earth to confound the wise." So ordinary people like me do believe and understand because of faith. For those who don't want to believe, no amount of proof or evidence will suffice.

I once had a friend who doesn't believe in the Bible that's why it's kind of hard for him to believe in an Almighty Creator although he was(my friend)one of the "wise". I asked him why he believes in our Math schoolbooks? he said he has proven it to be true. I said, "then try those things written in the Bible and experience it first hand."

Remember, if God is calling you to believe today, you'll know it for sure. You won't have to struggle with proofs and evidences! "My faith is sufficient unto you..."

Friends, believe.

Jojo,
Don't let Erik or Jonathon bother you, they have been posting on here for several years just trying to be a pain in the neck to those who believe in God and Christ. They want to appear to be scholars in anything that belittles the Bible. They are not allways as mean spirited as they were on this devotion, but sometimes they do get harsh with their comments. Usually the ones watching this site will chime in and scold them and even apoligize for their comments but I guess they haven't gone too far yet. Just don't pay them any attention, we have been praying for them for a good while now, maybe they are just fighting hard to mask some feelings they might be having about the Lord (I hope anyways). By the way, the scripture you was speaking of is found in 1 Cor 2:27, and it is very true. Just keep searching the scriptures, they will come to you more easily as you grow in the Lord. Have a blessed evening

Thanks Jerry, I'm relatively new here but don't worry, i'm okay, what bothers me though is the thought of people like Erik and Jonathan who are struggling with the fact that God is real and that Jesus exists. Whether they believe it or not, nothing changes. I cannot imagine when that moment comes when we all have to account for all that we've done in our lives, when we are before Him - face to face, what have we got to say for ourselves?

We don't have to believe for that to happen, it will! Are they willing to take the risk?

Praying for you.

Allah is God right? I've already decided not to take the risk and follow God so what's the problem JCO? Only people distinguish one God after another, but it doesn't change the fact that there is one true God, you may know Him as Allah, I know Him as my Father, a loving Father, who knows us better than ourselves, so what's to argue about that? Keep praying JCO, it helps.

Jojo,
When you answer their question they are good at twisting around and asking other question that are just as silly. They believe their mission is to fight against us as believers. I believe Eric said ont time he would continue to post because Bryant won't quit paying for ads to spread the gospel on his secular tv stations. I guess they just don't have anything else to do. Just pray for them, maybe one day they will see the light and accept Jesus as their Lord also.

For once, Erik and JCO, I would love for you guys to prove that God does not exist, or why given your relativist world, your views should be more important that ours, or why given the culture of death and intolerance which abounds in the Muslim world you don't put your time and energy into that cause. Why Oh Why so boring and predictable?

Paula begins with logical fallacy:
"Prove God does not exist."
(I am the King of Siam. Prove that I'm not.)
and ends in ad hominem: "boring" etc.

Allah is very unhappy with you people BTW. Are you SURE Allah isn't God? Do you want to risk your eternal salvation on it?

Logical fallacy defines you, Erik, given that you have not been able to prove your theory - God does not exist.

Or perhaps I overestimate you. Is it possible that somehow you simply have too much time on your hands and instead of putting that energy into a better place you opt to work at looking antagonistic and childish.

Except I have noticed some glimpses of something else like when you were trying to help RFTH fix their database problems...very "bipolarish", wouldn't you think? OR maybe He is already working on you...

PS - I don't have a beef with Allah, I typically don't waste my time with things I don't believe to be real. When his followers behead and torture then we've got problems.

And we should drop all this Arab and Jew and Persian and North American and South American and Ancient Aztecs and Mexican and Negro and WASP Stuff...

The Native Americans were here way before Columbus discovered the West Indies...I've seen the Cribs built back in the 1700s. The Blacks were Imported to this Country way before it became a Nation.

The Native Americans were here First. All of them.

Guys: If it had not been for the the Tuskeegee Airmen and MLK and JFK and LBJ and Bobby Kennedy and my Favorite Hosea Williams?

And Jimmy Carter and Ralph Abernathy and Ivan Allen and Jesse Jackson and that "Smart Assed White-Boy" Andrew Young?

We would all be Drinking from "Colored" Water Fountains.

I still miss Hosea...He would have loved to hear the Koreans praying at JFBC/G

Gunk,
I am uncertain as to what your comments have to do with what was said, but I would like to make a couple of points.

The crusades originated in the need to push back against Muslim expansionism which entailed a barbaric persecution of Christians. Throughout history Christians have dealt with their own extremists and were able to go back to the principles taught in our religion. As a consequence todays violence by self-professed Christians is pretty much non existent. Either way we are no longer in the 12th or 13th century.

By contrast, to this day and since its inception Islam has propagated through violence. Their "extremists" are directly responsible for virtually all terrorism acts committed in current times. I too have had a couple of Muslim friends whom I very much liked. However, the leadership of the "good Muslims" puts more time and effort in complaining about being targets of some imaginary profiling than making an effort to take back their "peaceful" religion from the grip of murderous extremists.

There is absolutely no connection between US civil rights movement and Muslim terrorists.

One last point Jesse Jackson is a useless race baiter and I will leave it at that, before I move on to Jimmy Carter and some others...
