Both an Atheist and a Hypocrite Aug 13 2010

"The fool has said in his heart that there is no God." - Psalm 14:1

One of the best selling books today is The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, Professor of Science at Oxford University. If there's any way to describe Richard Dawkins, it is this: He is an evangelist for atheism!

One thing that really fascinates me about Dawkins' book is his deep hostility towards religion. He really believes that religion is an evil influence on mankind. While he includes many examples of Christian misdeeds, he is quite silent on the subject of the evil springing from the atheistic philosophies in the 20th century. There's no mention of men like Mao, Stalin, and Pol Pot. Nothing about the leadership of North Korea or any of the other people who have embraced atheistic philosophies and murdered mega-millions of their own citizens. Where's the condemnation of that?

The Bible is clear that "a fool says in his heart there is no God." When that person begins to embrace a man-made cause, a man-invented ideology, and in the process, do what is right in his own eyes, he begins to justify abominable and evil things.

Whilst in austalia he participated in a debate where our 'christian' govt leaders stumbled over the defense of their faith whilst this evangelist went for the jugular. But God tripped him up where he insulted sacrifice, something Australians hold very dear (google ANZAC) and I believe he lost the audience (& hopefully viewers. He is a hypocrite because if what he says was true then he should not care who believes what as it's all meanlingless. The fact that he cares so much is proof that life has meaning and purpose. Athiest regimes were brought up in the debate and he blamed it on ideologies and not athieism. He's a fraud! On his web page recently he showed dog breeding as an example of evilution. Yet breeding is culling (removing) of unwanted genes or de-evilution. Not much of a 'scientist' if this is the best he can do.

I am 17 years old, go to one of the top international schools of the world. Studying all about this type of thing. After having this sent to me by a family member I am horrified that you can write so poorly and ignore the facts. Dawkins may have "deep hostility towards religion", but that is most likely because of the terrible things he saw done in the name of religion. Of course all of this suffering can be attributed to one man, a saint even, Saint Augustine. Augustine claimed that it was ok to torture as long as you were doing it in love of the victim. Now to me I find that pretty terrible, but maybe you are some of the more fundamentalist types who feel that that is a great idea, fine, but I sure hope not.
Now you say that Dawkin ignores all of the Secular Evils, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Kim Jong Il. Well of course he is going to, he isn't writing a book about all evil things done, its a book about the evils done in the name of religion. But also your choice of evils are poor. Mao had great regrets about his second five year plan which lead to the death of 20 million people, and the Chinese still think very highly of him for his efforts to strengthen China. Also his secular beliefs were because the Chinese of the day were tied down by Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism and Christianity even (yeah, there were Christians there, ones who if you read the book The Dragon Lady by Seagrave, were just as inclined to evil works). Had he left this religions in place, woman would have never gotten equal rights in China. Then you have Stalin, Pol Pot and Kim Jong Il who are all completely insane.
Also try quoting something other then the Bible, in the last 2000 years hasn't there been anything else to support your claims? I am tired of the same stuff being quoted, also when Christians have little evidence if any in their claims.

Oh and I forgot! Lets remember the great line from Romans 13 (not taking this right from the bible but pretty close) "The powers that be are ordained by god" one of the things that "forces" Christians to allow evil. Such as with the Bishops in Germany who did not try to stop Hitler because God had put him there. So then if you believe the bible you can not say that Stalin, Mao (Terrible example, go study him), Pol Pot and Kim Jong Il were bad, because they were "ordained by god" and thus he was punishing us or something with these leaders. Funny that God needed to punish countries already in desperate situations.

Forrest, such ignorance. You try to quote scripture (smoewhat)and you also take it out of context. The powers are simply the "leadership of government to guide the people." God did not put evil peoiple in place, but he allowed the will of the people to place them there. God did this to show mankind that we needed to follow his directions, not our own. But man knew more than God and so now look at what we have. Yes people allowed evil to prevail while God never intended for this to happen. You say all we ever do is quote the Bible and nothing else, I hope you don't actually want us to believe that this is your defence. We have quoted history, we have used science, the digging into the earth to uncover artifacts and cities that are spoken of in the Bible. We have used writings of famous people (even nonbelivers)and yet it is the same thing over and over by people who love to point out the famous schools that they attend, thinking this should impress us, you don't have anything new to invoke either. We are faced with people saying that they are fed up with Christians and their opinions, well I am tired of being the silent people, I am standing up for my belief also. Someone must have been concerned about you destination in eternity, rather than try to show your superior intelligence, just say thank you, and get on with your life if you do not believe in God then chaulk it up to the fact that someone loves you.

I can't find a brief synopsis of the daily devotions to post on my facebook wall. Just your link that takes people to your page and then they are expected to wade through everything. I was hoping to find a quick and easy way to put a synopsis of the daily devotion on my facebook, please have an advertisement and a link of course, but at least put something about the devotion on my page as well. My friends would read that and after time, may click the link. otherwise I will keep cut and paste the first part.

Forrest,
All I can tell you is this, when people speak of God, and YES HE EXISTS. They speak of peace, love and do so with calmness. Look at how hostile your remarks seem. That's how most Atheists are perceived. They usually appear very hostile and defensive. Probably because God is not in their statements.

There is a great article in American Thinker magazine written by an intellectually honest atheist that points out correctly that secularism owes a great a debt to Christianity. It is the moral grounding of the Judeo-Christian world view that allows secularists to live in a society that protects their views and keeps evil in check. He also is honest about the moral relativity that would be pervasive in a society without a religious grounding. It's a great read, and is quite relevant to today's devotion.

"Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and some other guys who do believe in God and they can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly I don't care." Thanks for another great 1 minute daily devotion. I want to encourage you to continue publishing and sending these daily devotions. In life whenever you are doing something right, that is God's way, you will always have opposition because the devil is always trying to put things or people in our way to discourage us. The bible says in Eph. 6 verse 12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." In the name of Jesus, hopefully these persons who the devil is trying to use will become a follower of Christ before it is too late.

Atheist is spelled:

A-T-H-E-I-S-T.

Bryant must be hanging out on 4chan too much.

There is no evidence that secularism leads to any sort of evil. A recent study found:

"Top of the class, in both atheism and good behavior, come the Japanese. Over eighty percent accept evolution and fewer than ten percent are certain that God exists. Despite its size – over a hundred million people – Japan is one of the least crime-prone countries in the world. It also has the lowest rates of teenage pregnancy of any developed nation."

So Bryant's hypothesis is easily refuted. Or 'refudiated' as Gov. Palin might say.

Thank you, Erik, for catching the misspelling of the word atheist. It was most definitely a mistake made by us and not by Bryant. I have made the correction, as you can see, on the website. Have a great day!

I misspell atheist all the time. It doesn't follow the "I before E" rule. What's up with that?

Ricky,

It doesn't follow the /i/ before /e/ rule because the vowels are in 2 different syllables.
