A Little Dash of Salt Jul 08 2010

"Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person." - Colossians 4:6

Scripture gives some wonderful advice for witnessing more effectively: "Season your speech with salt." How is that? If somebody sprinkles salt on food and makes it taste good, you appreciate it. But if somebody hands you a spoon of salt and says, "Take this all at once," it's a little hard to swallow. In fact, you can't even digest it!

Well, think how the non-Christian feels when all you do is talk about God and church and Jesus. You never talk about baseball. You never talk about the office. You never talk about politics. You never talk about the struggles in the neighborhood. You never talk about your family. You never talk about the everyday concerns that a non-believer has. On the other hand, if you talk about all of these things and occasionally sprinkle in a little word about the Lord when there's the right opportunity, or an insight you learned from a sermon, or a Bible verse they might not know, then they may think, Well, where did that wisdom come from? Their curiosity is aroused, and longer, deeper conversations may follow.

When you have the opportunity, just sprinkle the conversation with a little spiritual salt. It adds zest and flavor to life.

Really appreciate your site and the comments about a little dash of salt, the perspective on that.

Whenever someone sprinkles in a word about "the lord", I generally think they're nuts. (Usually in my travels to America ONLY).

Thanks for this reminder to lightly share with others our faith. Ive sometimes found those that never talk of anything else for some reason seem to be having more of a problem living their faith in their personal lives and therefore come across as hypocritical. I've heard the saying for that type of person is that they're wearing their faith on their sleeve. Even for me as much as I love the Lord and try to live my faith everyday, it can be rather annoying to listen to them when you feel they are being insincere. This devotion is a reminder that while we should always be willing to share our faith that we shouldn't shove it down other's throats. I think people should be able to see a differenc in us in not only what we say, but also what we do. Thanks again for this reminder to us to go lightly, especially at first with our religious conversations to others. God bless everyone

I really appreciate your perspective on "A Little Dash of Salt." It is always great to talk about GOD but there are other life issues to talk about. By adding a lttle spiritual salt in our conversation makes it so much more effective than by always talking about God and church. Keep up the great work. I look forward in reading these daily devotions.

Usually (but not allways) people who only talk about church and nothing else, we refer to them as being "Too Heavenly minded to be any earthly good." Sometime they are as Christ Follower said, hypocritical.
Thanks for the reminder. I don't mind talking about the Lord, anytime, you can tell if the people you are conversing with will be receptive or not.
I pray that God will bless everyone who visits this site.

Thank you, RFTH, for the many times you have sprinkled a little salt into my day through these very thoughtful and encouraging devotions. They are quite a contrast to the acrid seasoning the world tries to pour into the day. I am very thankful for the inspiration I feel upon reading these devotions which help me to be a more effective Christian.

I loved the traditional or biblical devotion posted a couple weeks ago. All your devotions have been very refreshing. Thank you!
