Help Me With My Prayer Life May 28 2010

"Pray, then, in this way..." NAS - Matthew 6:9a

People often ask me questions about prayer. Jesus' disciples asked Him how to pray, for they saw that He often got away to pray. Here is a summary of what Jesus said to do:

Address God as Father. Through Jesus, we can know God personally as our Father - the embodiment of the ideal dad.
Praise. Praise His name and character traits. It makes our problems seem small when we remember how great God is.
Pray for His will to be done. This begins with us, but carries over to praying for others.
Pray for daily needs. God wants to meet our needs, but don't confuse needs and wants.
Confess your sins. Ask God's forgiveness and ask God's help in forgiving others who wrong you.
Ask for protection and strength in the face of temptation and evil.

Jesus teaches the basics on prayer. Find a quiet spot and give it a try. And, remember, prayer life gets better with practice.

Paul also gave much good advice on prayer. One of my favorites is Phillipians 4:6-7.
6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

That is one of my favorite verses on prayer, too, Grant. It acknowledges that people do have anxiety but gives the remedy. Whenever I get caught up in stressful times I have to stop and ask, "Have I prayed about this?" Prayer looks up while anxiety looks down.

Praise God he does still answer prayers. my granddaughter is proof of that.
Also Rev Gordon Combs was in the hospital this week and on Sunday night the doctors told his wife that he wouldn't make it through the night. When he did they said if he made it 48 hrs, then he may make it. I spoke to him Thursday night and he was at home and talking about visiting my church. Isn't God good?

Yes God IS good, and He would still be good even if these people had not recovered. He is good all the time not only when we get the answers WE want.

There is nothing more Powerful than Prayer, I was taught it doesnt matter where you Prayer whether it be a Church or in your kitchen God hears you, he doesnt worry what you wear to Church either. Whenever I have a quiet moment I put my hands together and thank God for my health, I'm not worried about wealth.
