"Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?" - 2 Corinthians 6:14-15
Did you know that Christians are called to marry Christians? Why, you might ask? First, it's just common sense. If Christ is your priority and you marry someone whose priority is politics, music, work, sports, education, or anything other than Christ, in time, you'll find yourselves drifting apart. God's practical instruction that Christians are to be bound with Christians allows us to be joined together in a deep relationship of love, respect, compassion, and understanding.
But that's not all. If it's important that Christians marry Christians, then it is just as important that Christians should only date Christians! Why? Well, the fact is that we tend to marry people that we date! Christians must be cautious about getting into a serious relationship with anyone not committed to following Jesus Christ. Determine their commitment right up front. Ask them if they're committed in their relationship to Christ - not just mouthing words and professing things they don't mean in their hearts. Otherwise, you're choosing that person as your priority over Christ, which is clearly outside the will of God.

This is complicated. I know some good Christian couples that didn't start out that way. One, or both, were outside the faith. I like to think that God brought them together and then brought them home.
I understand the wisdom of today's message, but I also have faith that God is in control. Like I said, it's complicated. - Grant
I agree with Grant that it's complicated. Because if my mom, a pastor's daughter, who did not date my dad who was not a Christian at that time, then it is a possbility that my dad might not have become a dedicated Christian as he is today and would not have been able to introduce Christianity to the members of his family.
However, my mom's pre condition for marrying my dad was that he had to get baptized to become a Christian first. - Ray
Grant,
I understand what Bryant is saying and I do agree with him but on the other hand I have seen where unequal yoked couples have made it and there is a scripture that says that the believing spouse can santify the unbelieving spouse. I am just thinking on the cuff on this one, I don't have the scripture at hand. Brother you have a blessed evening, I appreciate your comments and I have learned alot ready from your comments. - Jerry
Dittos back at ya Jerry. There are many wonderful comments and encouragements on this site.
Which of the prophets was it that was told to marry Gomer, the prostitute?
God uses unlikely people and unlikely situations to carry out his will. - Grant
I do agree to whats written, I am married to my husband whois not a crishtrian, he and his family practise a diff religion. It is very difficult for me tremendously so because we live in a joint family, all non catholics, he is definetly influenced by me and does come to chruch and says the prayer, however there are times when he does not and it makt very difficult because, whn I need sm one to be thre for me I have no one, sm one to push me in my christian values I find my self alone. It's a very lonely battle for me, besides i always feel lost wth his family, and some time maybe because, I am diff they don't like it, its very diff for me to bring my two kids in the catholic faith. I myslf find it a huge burden on me to be good because everthng I do is associated wth me being a catholic. It is so hard because much as I try, I am far far far from perrfect, and I feel may times I have let god down. I believe there r a lot of oppur to convert, but more to fall, and destroy. I agree its better to marry your own so that eachother may guide and strenth towards following god closely. I feel sad and so lost, I wish I had listened to MOm. - Niki
Niki, You have shared of the sadness and battles that result from what Bryant speaks of in this devotion. I will pray for you.
Is it possible you could try a different church situation so you would feel the companionship of other Christians?
I also hope you can spend a good quantity of time in God's word to remind you that you are never really alone for He is always with you. - Janice

It is found in Hosea 1:2-3. It was because the land had gone a whoring, and was rebellous to God - Jerry
My wife is a wishy washy Roman Catholic. She weakly believes in some kind of "loving god" (which I always joke and tell her that's not the one described in the Old Testament), hardly goes to church, and agrees with many of my points on the false nature religion.
Thus, it works. When she occassionaly goes to church, I stay home and get some things done that need attention. - JCO
