Ted Turning? Feb 05 2010
"The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.' They are corrupt; their deeds are vile;" - Psalm 14:1
Let's look at some selected statements in the life of Ted Turner, businessman, media mogul, bison rancher, and the largest private landowner in the USA.
1989: "Christianity is a religion for losers."
2000: Upon admitting that one of the main things that caused the divorce with Jane Fonda, his wife of nine years, was that she had become a Christian, Ted sad, "She just came home and said, 'I've become a Christian.' Before that, she was not a religious person. That's a pretty big change for your wife of many years to tell you. That's a shock."
2001: Speaking to employees who had ashes smudged on their foreheads for Ash Wednesday: "Are you all a bunch of Jesus Freaks? Maybe you should go to work for Fox News."
2008: Upon partnering with Lutherans and Methodists in a $200 million campaign to fight malaria in Africa: "Religion is one of the bright spots as far as I'm concerned, even though there are some areas where they've gone over the top a little."
Now this is not a Saul-to-Paul conversion here; in fact, it is not even a conversion - at least, not yet. But it does appear his heart is softening - maybe just a little bit. Let's pray for him. It could be interesting to watch this story develop. Can't you see the headline on the 24-hour news networks that begin, "A Fool No More?" Stay tuned!
