Mary - A Great Example of Faith Dec 18 2009
"But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart." - Luke 2:19
The Bible could never be accused of whitewashing the heroes of the faith. Abraham, Jacob, Moses, David, and Peter all had some pretty serious flaws and failures. When we come across a biblical personality who had no recorded obvious flaws and sins, we take note. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is one of those who was always found faithful. And what faith she had! She was a Jewish teenage virgin visited by an angel, and told she would give birth to God's son.
I love Mary's realness. She initially responded like any teenage virgin would today. Disbelief, shock , bewilderment -- probably wondering what her fiance and her family would think. She asked, "How can this be since I am a virgin?" But after the initial shock, she chose to believe God's Word. She's the first to believe in Jesus as her Savior and Lord -- while she carried Him in her womb.
She's the true first lady of the faith. Do you believe as Mary did? What God's word says about Jesus is true.

Yes, report it NevermindToday's devotional is one of the best we have had. It gives me much to ponder today.
And, no, I sadly don't even come close to that kind of faith, trust and obedience.
Have a blessed day.

Yes, report it NevermindMary was a great example of faith. But we need to be careful re: worship of her. Many do and we are not supposed to worship another human, no matter how saintly they are...

Yes, report it NevermindThis is a very insiteful devotion today. Mary was a very unusual girl in her faith and obedience. God made her that way for a very important reason. God certainly knew what he was doing when he chose her to nurture and raise His son, our savior. She subsequently had a very difficult life to live as we mothers can imagine! Acknowledging her specialness is not in anyway worshiping her. It is no different than acknowledging other people of great faith that we admire and look up to. She is a wonderful example to all of us of living an unwavering life of obedience.

Yes, report it NevermindSue's comment about worshiping Mary is probably just a caution about Roman Catholic teachings that elevate Mary to the status of a sinless person and co-mediator with Jesus. Roman Catholics definitely worship Mary.
