Earth Pains Oct 24 2009

"For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now." - Romans 8:22

Things just ain't what they're supposed to be. Consider man's violence against man, the animal kingdom's survival of the fittest, or pollution poisoning our air and streams. And it's incredible how the earth, with all its beauty and wonder, can become a destructive force against itself through earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, and floods.

The Bible says, "...the whole creation groans and suffers the pain of childbirth." See, in the beginning before man sinned, everything was in sync. There was such peace on earth that even man and animals were vegetarians. There was no killing of any kind. But now the earth has entered into a period that God likens to a mother giving birth, and, like childbirth, things will get worse before they get better.

All creation longs for things to be made right, and one day it will be--the day when Jesus returns. It will be a time of salvation and judgment. Judgment will be for those who are not right with God, and salvation for those who are. His arrival will usher in a new age of harmony and peace on earth. Won't it be great? If you're ready, yes. If you're not, no.The key question for you is, will you be ready? The only way to be ready is through faith in Jesus Christ.

I was taught that Jesus would not return until all the world had heard the gospel and had the opportunity to choose or reject him. Forty years ago, 1969, this seemed impossible. How could we ever have enough missionaries to reach all the people of the world?

That was before the computer and internet revolution. Before 24/7 communication sources. Now the day is rapidly approaching, if not already here, when all the peoples of the world will have heard not only the message of Jesus Christ, but also the other competing world views. At that point, no one will be able to dispute the justice of God rendering his judgement on all mankind.

The question, "Are you ready?" has never been more relevant. If you are, do you have loved ones who are not? Our sense of urgency about our discipleship cannot be too great.

Maybe it's me getting older but I feel this world is falling deeper and deeper into dispair. World issues involving war and religion. The lack of direction with so many youth based on the family unit falling apart. Unprecedented greed and infidelity with no accountability whatsoever. Everything about sex and money. From reality shows to the internet, everything revolving around sex, fame and money. You would think that as we evolved, we would improve ourselves as compassionate human beings. Instead, just seems like more and more temptation and sin around every corner creating more chaos and destruction.
