First Basic In Victorious Living Oct 12 2009
"...Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters." - Isaiah 55:1
Great football teams focus on the basics of blocking and tackling, over and over and over. Victorious living focuses on the basics as well. The number one basic discipline for victorious living is regular time alone with God.
The prophet Isaiah says, "Ho, everyone who thirsts. Come to the waters." Ho, meaning whoa or slow down. We tend to be like a bunch of racehorses, charging out of the starting gates, rushing into the day without a thought for God. Ho! Slow down and thirst for God. Charging out to make money doesn't satisfy; it leaves your soul empty. God is the source of satisfaction and fulfillment.
Do you have a thirst for God? Ask for a thirst to know Him. Ask God to give you a desire and discipline to spend time with Him, talking and listening to Him through prayer and Bible study. This brings renewal and strength. Regular time alone with God is the first basic in victorious living.

Yes, report it NevermindDuring my lifetime, 64 years and counting, I have noticed a dramatic increase in the "busyness" of people's lives. This is true for adults and children. Many families don't even take time for an evening meal together. People are so busy "multi-tasking" that they don't stop to just enjoy the moment.
I have tried to make a change in that part of my life over the last several years. It's all about priorities and quality time. Obviously, todays message is to slow down and spend more time with God and that's at the top of the priority list. But, we all need to relax and enjoy our families, our friends, a good book and just plain old rest.
Things still get done and I am much more at peace.
Have a blessed day.

Yes, report it NevermindWhat a good point you make, Grant. Sometimes I question how God wants me to spend my time, what project to attempt next, etc., but I know that His top priority for me is to spend time in His word and with Him in prayer. That should happen each and every day that He has made. And it needs to be some quantity time to be able to digest the bread He is feeding me. He is so good to provide if only we will get out of busy mode long enough to enjoy Him.
I have been on some vacations where a great effort was made to see all the sights of a particular location. It would be such a whirlwind tour that I really did not get to focus on anything but at least I could say I had been there. But I did not in reality feel I had been there in my heart because I did not soak in the locale. I think now people are wise to pick the best and leave the rest.
To me meeting with God is the very best I can do in any day so that is what I commit to do. It never fails to be worthwhile.
