First Basic In Victorious Living Sep 16 2009
“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters.” - Isaiah 55:1
Great football teams focus on the basics of blocking and tackling, over and over and over. Victorious living focuses on the basics as well. And, the number one basic discipline for victorious living is regular time alone with God.
The prophet Isaiah says, “Ho, everyone who thirsts. Come to the waters.” Ho, whoa, slow down! We tend to be like a bunch of racehorses, charging out of the starting gates, rushing into the day without a thought for God. Ho! Slow down and thirst for God. Charging out to make money doesn’t satisfy; it leaves your soul empty. God is the source of satisfaction and fulfillment.
So thirst for God. Ask God to give you a thirst to know Him. Ask God to give you a desire and discipline to spend time with Him, talking and listening to Him through prayer and Bible study. This brings renewal and strength. Regular time alone with God is the first basic in victorious living.

Yes, report it NevermindVery true, and very convicting. I definitely charge out of the gates and rush into the day.

Yes, report it NevermindI prefer to spend time alone with God in the morning but sometimes I have to rush into the day thirsty without time with Him. On those days I break for God. I graze throughout the day as moments present themselves by keeping a small Bible in my car, by repeating Scripture to myself that I am memorizing, by listening to Christian radio, etc. God made us to be creative and ingenious so we have the ability to find ways to be alone with Him. Anyone who can not find time to be with Him is just not making it a priority. Anyone who has lunch can make a lunch date with God. In Revelation 3:20 Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and and he with Me." He is there waiting, knocking....

Yes, report it NevermindFor anyone wanting to know what it means to "thirst for God", I would commend the book "The Pursuit of God" by A.W. Tozer. It's not long and it's one of the most inspirational books you will ever read.
