Waiting On God Apr 04 2009

"Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him..." - Psalm 37:7

I don't like to wait in long lines at restaurants, being stuck in traffic during rush hour, or being put on hold by a computer. Waiting seems to be a waste of time. This is why waiting on God is so difficult for many believers to do. That's also why many people quote the verse that is not in the Bible, "God helps those who help themselves." That's American ideology, but it’s not biblical. The statement speaks to the lack of faith, how God needs us to take charge to get things done.

But one thing's for sure: What we need to do is to trust God and be willing to do His will, in His timing, not our own. For the right action at the right time equals the right result.

Waiting on God is tough, but God's timing is always best for us, and for others.

Yes, report it Nevermind

Thank you for this timely devotion today. I am in the midst of a life changing decision and I am thankful for the reminder to wait upon the Lord. Actually as I was signing on this morning I was sensing the struggle. Also my life verse is Proverbs 3:5-6 which has been tested many times in my walk with the Lord. God Bless the Body of Christ!!!

I believe the Bible provides numerous examples of "God helps those who help themselves." From the non-yielding, healthy olive tree to the man who foolishly buried the coins to the good Samaritan, helping not a beggar but a robbed traveler. There are numerous parables that support Ben Franklin's quote. I do not see it supporting the lack of faith. One needs to be always productive based on one's God given abilities. - Bob
